What to Expect at a Class
We offer a variety of classes at different times to suit the individual. If you do not find a suitable class please let us know.
We do not expect anyone to sit on the floor if this is not comfortable so provide chairs in each venue.
Morning and Lunchtime Class
These classes last half an hour and focus on simple meditations from the 'living meditations' series of CD's by Tharpa Publications. We begin with a few minutes of simple breathing meditation followed by a 5-10 minute explanation on the meditation we will be doing. The meditation is then 15 minutes. There is time at the end to ask questions and in the morning class we are able to provide refreshments.
Evening Classes
These classes are 1 and a half hours long and focus on a specific topic from Buddhist teachings. See the individual venues for information on each weekly topic. We begin with a short prayer that you are welcome to join in with or simply sit and relax through. We then do a 10 minute breathing meditation followed by a 1/2 hour talk on the specific topic. We then do a 10 minute meditation on the particular topic followed by an opportunity to ask questions if you wish. We then have refreshments and more time for discussion.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I have to be Buddhist to attend?
No. Our weekly classes are for everyone. We try to make them accessible so that everyone can learn methods they can bring into their daily life.
Do I need to sit on the floor?
No. We try to provide an environment everyone can feel comfortable in so every venue has chairs.
What if I cant make every class?
Each class is self-contained. We try to make sure that each weeks topic can be listened to and understood on its own.
What if I want to come along half way through the term?
You can turn up at anytime during the term.
What if I cant affort £5 every week?
We do offer concessions for those who find £5 a week impossible. We are a registered charity and fees do cover running costs only, however we wish everyone to be able to access the talks.
Will we have to chant prayers?
We do engage in a short prayer at the beginning of the evening classes called the Liberating Prayer. This is in English and set to music. We are welcome to join in, prayer sheets are provided, or you can simply relax and enjoy.
What if I have been attending a while and wish to deepen my understanding?
